Is a certification required to start a teaching position?
Yes, appropriate certification is required for all teaching positions. Our district accepts certification through SBEC, alternative certification programs, and local teaching permits.

Does BISD pay monthly or bi-monthly?
Burleson ISD pays employees on a monthly basis.

Will I earn more as a teacher if I have a Master's Degree or Doctorate Degree?
Yes, teachers with a Master's are paid $1,500 more per year as part of their salary. Employees with a Doctorate are paid $3,000, as a stipend. You must provide HR with an "Official College Transcript" in order to receive these monies.

Do I need a degree to become a substitute teacher?
No. You are able to substitute teach with a high school diploma or GED.

What is the process to apply to be a sub?
You must complete the online application and select “Substitute Jobs” on the Career Opportunities Screen. After submitting your application you will receive a confirmation email with a link to a pre-screen survey, which is also required. Once your application and pre-screen survey have been reviewed for approval, you will be contacted with information on an orientation date.

Does BISD offer paid time off?
BISD provides 5 state personal days and 3 local sick leave days. These days will be prorated if you are a late hire. Employees who work year-round (225+ days) also receive non-contract days. The number of days provided is determined each year by the school calendar.

Does BISD allow employees to transfer their out-of-district children to a BISD school?
Yes. This is an option for our employees.
